The twenty-second arcanum is about a lineage that broke off although it could have continued. Lines cut short by somebody's decision; children there was no longer any possibility of bearing, or children who were not wanted.
The descendant meets this as difficulty with continuation. Children do not come, or come late, or come with great effort; or they come, but no bond with them is built, and the line breaks off not biologically now but in substance. Sometimes the storyline sounds different: a person feels that "everything ends with me", with no external reason to think so.
The working-off is continuation in the broad sense. One's own children, adopted children, children taken into guardianship; but also transmission — of what you know and what you can do, to those who are younger. A lineage continues by more than blood, and this law closes through the fact that after a person there remains someone to whom they managed to pass something on.
