The twenty-first zone is filled by quality and by novelty. It matters to such a person that the things around them are good, and they hear about what is new before everyone else and without any special effort.
Most often this is technology, tools, everything to do with information — but the point is not the objects. The point is that the person lives at the leading edge and pulls the rest along there too: they are the one people ask what to buy and what has come out.
This is not extravagance. The twenty-first zone is usually good with figures and knows where to get the same thing cheaper — it is simply that giving up the better option comes hard to it.
In an outdated, neglected setting it fades, even when objectively everything works.
