The nineteenth arcanum is about a good name that existed and then was gone. An act after which the family name began to sound different; a disgrace that settled on everyone, including those who had no part in it.
The descendant carries a reputation they did not earn. Opinions about them are formed in advance, they have to prove the obvious, their success is met with suspicion. There is often a person in the family who is spoken of only in half-hints, and the shadow cast by him is longer than the story itself.
The working-off is to restore the name by deeds and not by explanations. Arguing with other people's opinion is useless, and here it is pointless; only a consistency of conduct stretched over years works. And not to add a shadow of one's own: this law is easily deepened by a single decision.
