The eighth arcanum speaks of a direct breach of the law from which particular people suffered. What matters is not the letter — laws change — but that there was a victim and there was an understanding that this must not be done.
The descendant meets the law more often than their way of life warrants: unjust accusations, lawsuits, inspections out of nowhere, a reputation that arrives before they do. Another version of the same thing — a person spends a whole life balancing on the edge of what is permitted and sincerely fails to see a line where other people see one.
The working-off is to live by the rules precisely where going round them is easier and cheaper. Not to look for grey routes, not to win through a loophole, to put right what was broken where there is something to put it right with. What works here is not a loud act, but the absence of small ones.
