The eighth task is to reconcile. Someone with it is given the ability to stand between the parties in conflict and find a solution that both sides will accept.
Hence their make-up: reserved, sparing in the expression of feeling, inclined to think ahead. From the outside this reads as coldness; in fact it is a working state — one can judge only while not being involved.
Professionally the task unfolds in law, mediation, arbitration, human resources, anywhere the point is to settle a matter rather than to win.
The chief temptation of the eight is to take a side. The moment that happens the task stops being carried out, and with it goes the very thing people came to this person for.
