The ninth task requires going alone. No equal partners in the work: the person has to walk the path themselves and learn to answer for it without sharing the load.
This is not about turning away from people, it is about how the work is arranged. A salaried position and joint ownership come harder to the nine than a practice of its own — not for lack of ability, but because in a pair it stops carrying the whole weight.
The second line of the task is care for the elders. Looking after them, supporting them, being present beside those who can no longer manage on their own.
The task is completed by handing something on: having gone through a hard path, the person becomes the one who tells another that this path can be walked. That is precisely the point of the solitary route.
